In April, I got an opportunity to test a professional line photo book by Saal Digital. Downloading and installing their software was easy and nothing out of ordinary.

Saal Design Software is very intuitive, I was able to immediately start working and learn on the go. I started a new project and was presented with rich cover and format options. I decided on a clean natural linen cover and square format in 30x30cm. Square format is my favorite shape of a photobook, it offers great layout options for portrait and square-shaped photos. In addition, Saal Digitals' lay-flat binding allows incorporating great landscape panoramas.

After culling the photos, I spent two hours designing and setting the book. To my surprise, I found the Auto Layout option did a really good job and brought me quite close to the final design. With some manual adjustments, I was able to quickly round up the look.

My book was delivered four days after ordering it. Considering the product, that is a great production speed. It was packaged well, saving on the material but still protecting the book so it arrives safely.

The final product is fantastic. Being a printer myself, I appreciate Saal-Digital's print quality. With a calibrated monitor, the colors and exposure fit 100 percent. Photos are vibrant and lively, it is a joy to look at them. The binding is great, up to the last detail. The material, assembly, cover, and spine print, all of the elements are perfect.

The best feature is the lay-flat binding. You can use the whole gutter without losing any information. This opens countless options when designing your book. From whole spread panoramas to multiple large photos, lay-flat is a charm!

Final word

Sall Digital's Professional Line delivers what it promises. It is a ripe product line, that leaves no wishes open. Ordering from this segment, you can be assured, you will get a high-quality product, ready for delivery to high-demanding customers. The whole product is amazing, but the lay-flat binding is an obvious highlight. Compared to the competition, I really cherish the business practice of Saal Digital. The whole transaction is transparent, and the price given by software during design is the actual final price. I had bad experiences in the past with other companies wherein the end, they demanded additional money to remove their logo. During the last steps, it also turned out, their production facility is in another country, therefore the delivery costs were hilariously high. This is not the case with Saal Digital. High five for that!
